I created my open ceramics workshop in 2000. At that time, there was nothing like this outside of cultural centers. I also attended a ceramics circle, but I dreamed of a much better equipped place that offers diverse programs, serves people's creativity, and builds community in their free time. At the end of the 90s, we lived in England, where my husband worked and I went to ceramics once a week in the evenings. Being able to design and create ceramic objects released wonderful energies from me, serving as a cathartic experience. There are few such things in one's life. I decided that when we return home, I would like to continue on this path. Although I graduated as a Hungarian-English teacher, in 1999 I took a pottery professional exam organized by the Dr. Kresz Mária Foundation - Pottery Center. In 2000, I graduated from the Art Manager Training Program at the University of Applied Arts. In my thesis, I dealt with creating an open ceramics workshop, developing the professional, pedagogical, psychological, and business background of work around clay. When I completed the Advanced Course for Folk Games and Small Crafts Instructors at the Hungarian Institute of Popular Education in 2004 and took the pottery instructor master's exam, I had already been running the workshop for four years. I worked on creating an environment where I feel at home; where I can connect my profession, pedagogy, my craft, pottery, my area of interest, arts and crafts, and what I feel called to do - working with people in a creative and helpful way. This became S.K. MŰHELY.
